Currant Berries are small berries with a very high juice content and a sweet acidic taste.  White currants may be consumed raw either on their own or in salads, however, they are very tart and and more frequently consumed cooked.  They may be added to puddings, cakes, and pies, and they blend well with plums, pears, raspberries and pineapple.  White currants are mainly used to make compote, jelly, jam, syrup and wine.
