A.K.A., Phsyalis, Ground Cherry, Goldenberry, Husk Cherry, Husk Tomato, Poha.  The peeled Cape Gooseberry has an intensely tart and sweet flavor with hints of green apple, strawberry, grape and pineapple.  Wonderful aroma.  Serve raw, or simmer or poach for sauces, soups or jams.  Dip in chocolate for a decadent touch.  Serve raw (whole, halved or quartered) in green salads, chicken salads (as a grape replacement), and fruit salads.  Use in sauces, tarts, chutneys and glazes.  Flare back it’s husk & garnish martinis and desserts.  Cape Gooseberries originated in Peru.  They are a cousin of the tomatillo and have a similar looking husk.
