Also known as the Melon Pear and Mellowfruit, which the latter is most apropos. Best enjoyed when ripe, this small, pear-shaped melon has a thin, smooth, edible skin. Its skin can range from green to dark purple, or yellow to dark purple when more ripe. Its flavor is mellow, with hints of cantaloupe, honeydew and cucumber. Not particularly sweet, it works well with other, sweeter melons and fruits.
